Hill Country Hydro Gas also has a large inventory of Underground Propane Tanks available at all three locations. UG (underground) tanks are increasing in popularity. The main reason for this increase is our ability to make your propane tank virtually unseen. UG tanks are as safe as above ground tanks. The biggest difference in the two are cost. UG tanks cost more and you also have the excavation expenses associated with burying the tank. All UG tanks require a magnesium anode bag for cathodic protection. We also require that the hole and tank be back filled with a soft sandy loam material.

Underground Tanks require the same distance regulations as Above Ground tanks. The UG tank that we carry is a true UG tank, which is why they are to be buried at a 4.5′ depth. There are other so called UG tanks available that only need to be buried a few inches. We have found that these tanks are susceptible to floating due to heavy rains and with their shallow depth, erosion of soil covering the tank can take place.
